Heather Larson

I'm a freelance writer with experience creating a variety of web content like blogs, podcasts, newsletters, and SEO content.  If there was life before new media, it was spent on the radio and writing for magazines.

Freelance music and entertainment writing

I started writing music and entertainment news for radio and the web in 2001 when I worked for KZZP-FM Phoenix.  My time there began with me working part-time on the air by myself at the heritage Top 40 station and doing website updates the rest of the time writing music news.  The station became KISS and I was promoted to doing morning news with Kid and Ruben in the Morning.  When 9-11 happened, I took on the task of writing hard news in edition to my morning music and entertainment newscasts.  I continued growing as a news writer in 2004 when I went to work at Westwood One Metro Source writing national and international news during morning drive.

KISS promoted me to morning show producer after a while and I also wrote long-form programming for the station.  I wrote three hour-long concert specials -- one for Eminem, one for Usher, and one for Nelly.  Music writing has always been a passion of mine I continue to pursue today at Suite101.com and 98-7 The Peak, my current on-air home where I do weekends.  You can listen to my "Peak Party" every Saturday night from 7 pm-12 am.  Working in radio has given me many opportunities to write great on-air and online content, but that's not all I do.

After being laid off from KISS in 2003, I went back to school full-time at Paradise Valley Community College, where I obtained my journalism certificate and wrote for the PVCC Puma Press newspaper.  That's when I jumped off into writing broadcast news for Metro, then later in 2005 I took a job as managing editor for Valley Publishing in Mesa.  I managed the editorial for Northeast Mesa Lifestyle Magazine, Gilbert Lifestyle Magazine, and the Senior Lifestyle newspaper.  That's when I discovered managing others is not for me; I want to be managed.  I want to write for others and enjoy a strong relationship with a great editor who can mentor me.  That's not to say I won't want to be an editor someday, but for now I'd like to make my mark as a writer.

In 2007, I was making my mark at Suite101.com as the Pop Music Feature Writer, at CNET's Webshots.com as the Entertainment Channel writer, and at 987ThePeak.com where I wrote blog posts, "Peak Dope," and part of Mary's Legends.  I also began an internship for Organic Processing magazine, and now as 2008 begins, I am a nationally published writer.  My article on O~Wool organic wool is in the first issue of Organic Processing for the new year.

Music Writing Online

The Music Stalker
I'm working on my own site, TheMusicStalker.com.  Most of the action right now is taking place on the blog.  A life spent as a 'Music Stalker' coupled with ten years of radio experience is going into this site, along with my maverick spirit of just wanting a site where I can write about whatever kind of music I want to sans label.

98-7 The Peak

I'm on the air, weekends, on 98-7 The Peak in Phoenix.  You can catch me Saturday nights 7pm - 12 am for the all-request "Peak Party" and Sundays 3-7pm.

In 2007, I wrote the Peak Dope for 987thepeak.com.  To get to the Dope, click on the water cooler you see on the home page.  Or just go here.  I also wrote One Liner News for Mr. Peakerman's blog.  I also helped Mary Reilly with her Peak Legends online.

Suite101.com

I served as the pop music feature writer there from February-November 2007.   I conducted interviews, wrote articles, engaged in discussions, blogged, and created polls for my page.

I wrote an article on Alice Cooper -- then a coworker in 2004 -- for the Puma Press.
